THE MAGNIFICAT
The cantile of Mary (Luke ch 1 verses 46-55)
My soul glories the Lord
my spirit rejoices in God my Saviour.
He looks on his servent in her lowliness;
henceforth all ages will call me blessed.
The Almighty works marvels for me.
Holy his name!
His mercy is from age to age,
on those who fear him.
He puts forth his arm in strength
and scatters the proud hearted.
He casts the mighty from their thrones
and raises the lowly.
He fills the starving with good things
sends the rich away empty.
He protects Israel, his servent,
remembering his mercy,
the mercy promised to our fathers,
to Abraham and his sons for ever.
A CONTEMPORY PRAYER
Creator of nature and humanity, of truth and beauty we pray: Hear our
voice, for it is the voice of victims of all wars and violence
amoung individuals and nations;
Hear our voice, for it is the voice of all children who will suffer when
people put their faith in weapons and war;
Hear our voice when we beg you to instil into the hearts of all human beings
the wisdom of peace
the strength of justice
and the joy of fellowship;
Hear our voice and grant insight and strength, so that we may always respond
to
hatred - with love
to injustice - with total dedication to justice
to need - with the sharing of ourselves,
to war - with peace.
O, God hear our voice and grant unto the world your everlasting peace.
Amen
What you can do!
We urge Australians to request that the Australian government:
- Reconsider its obligations to East Timor, our neighbour, on grounds
of justice and fairness.
- On these grounds, provide more than fair terms
in the current Timor Gap agreements, to assist the new nation
to be self-sufficient and prosperous, to share our good fortune.
